After a few weeks away from the First Look series, this edition will focus on the senior defensive end for the Virginia Tech Hokies, James Gayle.
The Hokies enter the 2013 college football season with a handful of defenders squarely on the scouting community’s radar: The aforementioned Gayle, Antone Exum (one of the top corners in the Country) and Kyle Fuller (a solid third day prospect.) Other talented defenders on the Hokies include Jack Tyler (inside linebacker), Kyshoen Jarrett (strong safety) and Derrick Bonner (free safety).
Aside from Exum, Gayle is likely to be the highest-profile defender from the Virginia Tech program coming out next May. Continue reading …
The running back position has seen its value on draft day questioned over the last several years. With RBBC becoming the mainstream trend in the NFL, the days of the highly valued feature back seem to be reserved for a select few (see Adrian Peterson, Vikings.)

In this installment of the First Look series, I took a peek at Tajh Boyd, the senior quarterback of the Clemson Tigers. Much like the other signal callers that FRG Scouting has looked at so far, Boyd is coming off of an impressive 2012 season in which he was considered (at certain points in the season) as a dark horse Heisman Trophy candidate.
After a successful high school career at Phoebus High School in Hampton, Virginia (that even saw him play his senior season with a torn ACL), Boyd was a highly recruited, top-100 player who ultimately chose Clemson over Ohio State and Oregon. He became the Tigers’ starting quarterback in 2011 and is entering the 2013 season after two successful years at the helm.
